Why India?

One out of every seven people on the planet live in India.  With 1.2 billion  people, the population ranks behind only China in terms of sheer numbers.

However, there are fewer than 30,000 Christians in the entire country.  This means the vast majority of the 25,000 Indians who die every day do so with no eternal hope.

Centered in the missiological 10-40 window, India typifies the challenges of reaching unreached people for Christ:  vast distances over undeveloped roads, language challenges, religious opposition, illiteracy, lack of modern communication tools and utilities.

Hinduism is the dominant religion, with over 80% of the population adhering to it.  Muslims account for another 13% of the people, and Christianity has taken hold of less than 2.5% so far.  Both Hindus and Muslims are opposed—sometimes violently so—to the gospel.  Christians are often from lower caste groups, and suffer at the hands of more prestigious religious extremists.
