Since 1997 the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been a battleground as different groups struggle for control. It is the deadliest conflict since World War II, having claimed over 5.4 million lives.
Worldlink’s local partners, led by Dorcas Mudjengani, currently operate 11 shelters in the North Kivu province which care for abused women as well as those who have been abandoned or widowed by the fighting. They currently serve almost 200 victims of all ages.
Worldlink’s Congolese partners are hoping to expand the number of shelters to a total of 18.
Pray - Petition God for just and permanent peace in the region.
Partner - Partnerships are the backbone of Focus. Without US partners providing salary support for native missionaries, the work will not be done. It costs $100 per month to fully support a shelter staff member.
Donate - Support the resource fund. This fund is used to help with shelter costs, additional training, travel needs, and the purchase of needed equipment.
Advocate - Be a voice for the voiceless victims of the conflict. Tell their stories. Create opportunities for Worldlink’s staff to share the needs and opportunities of our Congolese partners with as many people as possible.
“We met soldiers,” was Honorine Kavugho’s simple description of how she became one of the countless thousands of women who have been brutally raped.
