...be it rain or shine, the students never give up, what a faith!
Sokoto is an ancient city located in the North-Western part of Nigeria. It is a famous city commonly called “Burnin Shehu” in Hausa meaning the great city of Shehu, where the Sultan resides and is the hub of Islamic affairs in Nigeria.
Nigeria is a hard ground and not easily penetrated with the Gospel message, due to its inhabitant’s commitment to Islamic faith, and opposition of the Christian faith. Our Worldlink partners are a vital part of the overall success in reaching Muslims for Christ in Nigeria.
Our Partners have a passion for souls and an evangelistic strategy of reaching Muslims on college campuses. By the grace of God they are able to share the love of Christ on ten campuses. Indeed the field is wide and ripe for harvest;
“Do you not say, ‘four months more and then the harvest? Will you open your eyes and look at the field! They are ripe for harvest” (John 4:35).
Although, there has been much progress in advancing the Gospel, there still are many campuses that are unreached, the opposition is great but the mission field is ripe for harvest! The scripture exhorts us that,
“…with man, this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”. (Mathew 19:26)
Worldlink partners are seeking places to meet, but time after time they are denied their request. At Sokoto State after much prayer, they were given a meeting place, but opposition soon came and they were driven out with the excuse that “…they are making noise”. Despite this the students joyfully meet for their fellowship and devotion under a tree in an open field, be it rain or shine, the students never give up, what a faith!
At Shehu Shagari college, Christian fellowships are denied a right to meet, either in the classroom, dorms or in leaders apartments. Any attempt by our Worldlink partners to meet is strictly prohibited, monitored and brings consequences to the students and their leaders.
Nigeria constitution grants freedom of religion for all Nigerians, but the reality is that religious freedom is restricted or prohibited for many Christians. This is the case at Usmanu Danfodio University, where all the fellowships were forced to merge in order to restrict and frustrate the Christians from practicing religious freedom. This left the Christian student fellowships without a place to worship. Please join us as we pray for God’s intervention.
Because of the hostility against Christians, our Worldlink Partners have sought different strategies to proclaim Christ. They have held all night prayer meetings, drama and choir weekends. The Christian students also are seeking to serve the school by setting aside a day to clean up their school environments, tract sharing, friendship evangelism. These are just some of the ways Christ is being proclaimed in the misdts of opposition.
Despite these challenges two hundred and thirteen souls were drawn from different faiths in the last twelve months. There were also lives transformed and leadership developed for the future church and the society at large. This indeed is the power of God working through native missions.
Please pray for Emmanuel and his family as they seek to live and minister in a land where opposition to the Good News of Jesus is great. Our confidence is in our God who is greater than any opposition. Praise Him for His faithfulness!
